My brother and I are five years apart but we have a really good relationship. We bond over zombies, Marvel comics, and Skyrim.
Last night we were talking about a zombie apocalypse within the marvel realm, but not Marvel Zombies. We were talking about what Marvel hero or villian you’d want in your survival group.
My brother tossed around Wolverine and the Thing because it would be difficult to infect them, and they’re strong and useful. But I was really worried about them actually changing. Like Wolverine is great, until he gets infected (if he can, we’re not even sure). Then we’ve got a zombie that literally can not die from a shot to the head because he has an adamantium skull case. So we go on about them for a while and he asks who I would want.
No hesitation: Squirrel Girl. Why? She can talk to squirrels. In the zombie apocalypse when communication is sketchy at best and maintaining a perimeter means keeping your life, I want someone who can excell at that. Doreen Green can ask her squirrel friends “Hey, are their zombies near by?” and they can just dodge around and give her the yay or nay. And then if she does turn she’s really no more harmless than any normal person turning into a zombie.
So she’s wonderfully useful as a human and only the average amount of dangerous as a zombie. My brother was impressed by my reasoning but couldn’t let go of the boyish urge to want a badass comic book companion.
